If you’re a follower on social media, you may have seen a few posts about another project I’ve been working on since late May. It’s called 30 to Lifestyle–a health and fitness website that features a 30-day challenge with curated exercises and recipes. Perhaps you guessed that I’m creating the recipes, which would be correct. The months have flown by as I’ve been working on ideas, a handful of which have been based around our sponsors. This one features a spiralizer from Oxo who signed up on a prize contributor a couple of weeks ago. I have a number of their products in my kitchen, as I’m sure many of you do as well. They’re sturdy, reliable and span the range of indispensable to task-specific. I would throw this spiralizer into the latter category. It may not be a foundation tool for anyone looking to stock their kitchen, it is a piece of equipment that will enhance the way you incorporate fruits and vegetables into your meals. Here’s a recipe that incorporates Oxo’s hand-held spiralizer, resulting in a twist on your summer slaw.

 When life hands you brisket, you gotta braise it. That’s the only option. It’s a tough cut of meat, and what better way to take care of it other than a slow, simmering bath in a Dutch oven or Crock-Pot. It will be some of the best meat you’ve eaten in your life, and thanks to braising, you don’t have to do a lot of work. Everything happens over the course of a few hours, and your responsibility is just to enjoy. The last slow cooker recipe on the blog was an ode to North Carolina-style pulled pork, and this dish also gives a nod to the South…by way of Kentucky. Let’s give a shout out to Texas as well because we all know brisket is king around those parts. This recipe brings together several influences, creating a fusion of flavors perfect for a cool evening meal.

The Corner of Sweet and Savory

The dish ‘Chicken and Waffles’ is popping up on menus all over the country. If you’re familiar with Los Angeles, then you undoubtedly know of Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles, who pioneered this savory and sweet combination with their famous restaurant chain throughout Southern California. Chrystal and I are always looking for new bite-sized treats to serve up at food gatherings. It was my mission to create an original appetizer-friendly dish featuring one of Alexia’s wonderful frozen products. I have always been drawn to their Seasoned Waffle Cut Fries. Regular fries are awesome, but there’s something about waffle cut ones that take french fries to a special level. That’s when genius struck! I connected the “waffle” in waffle fries with fried chicken; and thus, this fried chicken and “waffles” dish was born.
