Strawberry and Cinnamon Balsamic Tartlets

Two strawberry recipes in one week. Two strawberry and balsamic vinegar recipes, actually. What can we say? It was a good summer for strawberries and balsamic. They were eaten in a number of ways, including au natural, and each time, they’re super sweetness left a lasting impression. For one of their best applications, strawberries were served in mini tart shells on two separate occasions. Let’s set the stage. The first time, circles of dough were cut out of leftover puff pastry. The rounds were baked until they puffed, then topped with a mascarpone filling and macerated berries. The tarts were served at a work get together, and they were a hit. That led to the idea of bringing a revised version to a friend’s rooftop housewarming a couple of months later. For the second go around, they were a hit. That’s why there’s no shame in sharing this recipe with you.

Mixed Vegetable Tart

For anyone who lazily rises around 12:30 pm on the weekend with a rumbling tummy and finds themselves earnestly grappling with what to eat, there is brunch. No need to wallow in confusion over a bowl of cereal or a sloppy burger because, for the most part, you can find some sort of happy medium with brunch. Blueberry pancakes are allowed, as are French fries. Maybe even on the same plate. No one’s judging. We love brunch because it’s so flexible, and you can hit a wide spectrum of tastes and flavors. One our of favorite brunch dishes is a savory tart. We think you’d agree that it’s hard to say no to anything with a crust.

Meyer Lemon Tart

Why does that well-known saying give the lemon and its metaphorical representations a bad wrap? We can’t really think of anything bad about lemons. They’re delicious! You know that we love our citrus, so how can we see the ‘glass half empty’ in them? They are really a half full glass of fabulousness. Sweet fabulousness. This past weekend, we were given nothing but lovely lemons–literally and figuratively. All we could do was go with the flow and make the best out of the situations at hand. Although Easter has come and gone, we’d like to go back and share with you what went down.

Goat Cheese Tart with Strawberry Wine Sauce

As a rule, you should refrain from favoring one child over the other. It can create animosity, jealousy and kicks and bites when you’re’re not looking. You’re bound to create a problem if you have a favorite kid. We don’t have children, but this seemed like a fun metaphor. Food is not like a child. You can have a favorite food, and no one will be upset or vengeful. You can indulge in it everyday if you like. It can be your secret, or you can proclaim it loud and proud. If you saw our Southern cookin’ post, then maybe you recall a mystery final course we mentioned. This is it. Hands down, this is probably our new favorite dessert, and we’re letting you know right here and now. OK, so the picture above is probably not the best one in the world, but wait. Just wait until you see the next one.
