Revitalize With M Café's Summer Menu
Restaurant Reviews • Tags: Babycakes NYC, Los Angeles, M Cafe de Chaya, macrobiotic diet, restaurant review, vegan
If you live in Los Angeles, chances are you’ve heard of M Café de Chaya, the city’s mainstay in macrobiotic dining. M Café serves up whole, made-from-scratch foods that are vegetarian and vegan-friendly without refined sugar and other highly processed ingredients. The casual European-style café boasts an array of garden-fresh juices as well. At the beginning of the month, Chrystal and I were invited to the restaurant to check out the new summer menu. Both of us have been there more than once in the past, but it was high time for another visit for a lunch of seasonal dishes and a cooling beverage.

I turned 29 on October 24th of this year. Just 24 hours before my big day, we were invited to a tasting at a new Mexican restaurant in Beverly Hills called Taberna Mexicana. Chyrstal, sadly, had a last minute conflict, so I flew solo on this one. I was still happy to check out Taberna nonetheless, as we were specifically going for their all day Sunday Happy Hour filled with $4 menu selections of beer, wine, and margaritas. Yep! All day. Every week. 4 bucks!

Yxta and Mercado Revamp Mexican Cuisine
Restaurant Reviews • Tags: Downtown Los Angeles, El Arco Iris, Jesse Gomez, Jose Acevedo, Mercado, Mexican, restaurant review, Santa Monica, Yxta
There are some parts of Los Angeles’ sprawling neighborhoods that do not receive as much credit as they should for housing reputable restaurants. Yxta lies in a corner of L.A. that falls into the aforementioned category. Located in a quiet strip mall at the intersection of East Sixth Street and Central Avenue, Yxta has for the last couple of years, provided Los Angelenos with a unique taste of traditional and revised Mexican dishes close to the heart and travels of owner Jesse Gomez. He also owns El Arco Iris in Highland Park, which has boasted its presence since the mid 1960′s. Most recently, Jesse has also embarked on a third restaurant venture–Mercado– with Chef Jose Acevedo, but this time he is tackling the Westside. Santa Monica can expect the restaurant to open in October with a menu similar yet characteristically set apart from the other two under his the Gomez umbrella. We were able to sample fare at both Yxta and Mercado and wanted to share the experience with you.

Recently Chrystal and I were invited to attend a menu tasting at Wolfgang Puck’s newest creation, WP24 Restaurant and Lounge. Chrystal was unfortunately unable to attend, so I rolled up to Downtown Los Angeles solo for an evening of nibbles and sips. Perched on top of the infamous Ritz Carlton in LA Live, WP24 offers a modern interpretation of Asian cuisine with panoramic views of LA’s beautiful cityscape. Inspired by Chef Puck’s time spent across the Pacific–along with his passion for Eastern ingredients and cooking techniques–this award-winning restaurant was the perfect escape for a sampling of signature small plates and cocktails.

BoHo: Hollywood's Newly Renovated Gastropub
Restaurant Reviews • Tags: Adolfo Suaya, BoHo, craft beer, gastropub, happy hour, Hollywood, Kristofer Keith, restaurant review
Not too long ago, we were invited to visit the newly renovated gastropub, BoHo. Previously stationed on Sunset Boulevard, the restaurant had just completed extensive changes, including a move to the always busy Hollywood & Highland center. Of course, we were down for a visit to see the new place and also taste a few of the dishes on the menu. We chose a midweek date and arrived ready to grub. With much more space in which to spread its wings, so to speak, in the H&H complex, there was no doubt we were in for a treat.

Rounds Premium Burgers

A few weeks ago we were invited to sample a new burger joint right in the heart of West Hollywood. Rounds Premium Burgers offers a fresh take on the all-American burger in one of the busiest spots in the Los Angeles area. After having a successful go with the popular Juicy Burger in Hollywood, George Ghabi pulled in his brother Charbel for a new restaurant projects with hopes of striking gold a second time just down the street. Now, we can both enjoy a great burger. In fact, an amazing burger is one of the things I enjoy most in this world. Chrystal and I decided it would be well worth our time to see what a new burger restaurant could offer amongst this town’s plethora of choices!
