We spent this past weekend in San Francisco with a few friends from home…and a bunch of bloggers. It was the 3rd Annual Foodbuzz Blogger Festival, and we were very lucky to attend on behalf of Alexia Foods this year. We were one of the 22 bloggers who created and submitted a new flavor for the “Reinvent a Classic” Challenge. The Alexia Food’s Research and Development team our Herbes de Provence and Garlic as one of the four finalists, which is a huge honor. Now it’s up to our friends and family again to help us push our way to the top! Voting is now open on the Alexia Foods Facebook page. Head over and cast your ballot for the flavor that sounds the best! Voting will run through March 30, 2012. Vote now, vote tomorrow, vote every day! In the meantime, here’s a look at our Saturday with Alexia Foods and the one and only Chef Tyler Florence.

In just a few hours, we’ll be flying high on a quickie flight from SoCal to NorCal. For the third year in a row, we find ourselves at the Foodbuzz Blogger Festival in San Francisco. It kicks off with the usual Welcome Reception that, this year, will be combined with a blogger awards ceremony and dinner. We’ve always enjoyed the Welcome Reception’s previous set-up of kiosks and tables from all-you-can-sample food and beverage vendors, so the dinner and ceremony combination will be an interesting change. We’ll poke around the Taste Pavilion on Saturday afternoon and pick up more eats and sips, then finish off the affair with Sunday’s farewell brunch. It’s always a fun weekend, and we’ve been lucky to meet great people each time. This year, one of the big sponsors of the event is Alexia Foods, and they want you to be as involved in the Foodbuzz weekend as we are, even if you won’t be there. Keep reading to find out how.

Patience's Sweet Reward

We are no strangers to waiting. You probably know the feeling too. Sitting anxiously at an unbelievably long red light when you’re running late for an interview or staring at your cell phone in anticipation for an important call are both dreadful in their own right. Waiting for your friend to get to the point of his story. Waiting for the main course on a restaurant’s hectic night. Waiting for test results to assuage your worries. Waiting for those cookies to cool off a bit so you won’t completely disintegrate the roof of your poor mouth. Waiting. This is the season of waiting, as we both putter around expecting a decision about many things. One of those things is the Alexia “Reinvent a Classic” French Fry Challenge we first mentioned at the tail end of June. After a month of recipe testing, we finalized our flavor and submitted Herbes de Provence and Garlic Sweet Potato Fries. We’re still waiting to find out if our flavor happened to make it to the finalist round. Until the news is announced, there are still many more sweet potatoes to be eaten.

If you’re just checking in, we are participating in Alexia Foods’ “Reinvent a Classic” challenge that allows 25 bloggers to submit an idea for a new French fry flavor. Amir and I will need to submit our final sweet potato flavor idea to the Alexia Foods team by July 20, which is creeping up pretty quickly. We’re both crazy busy with work, traveling and other projects right now, so we’ve found the best way to do it is to split up the recipes and work on them individually for a bit. We’ll reconvene and test them all together before choosing one to submit. We’ve affectionately titled the Sweet, Herby, Smokey and Spicy. Here’s an update on the testing so far!

A week ago we announced we are partaking in the Alexia Foods “Reinvent a Classic” fry challenge, in which we compete with other food bloggers to come up with Alexia Foods’ next original French fry flavor. Only four finalists will be chosen and ultimately one will win the whole challenge, having his or her flavor produced and sold all over the country for everyone to enjoy. How exciting! After our first run of fry testing, we picked back up right where we left off a few days later. Like a mad scientist trying to perfect a new invention, we were back in our culinary laboratories excited to get things started. Of course we want to win in the end, but recipe experimentation and development are our absolute favorite things to do in the kitchen. We’re loving every part of this challenge!
