Happy All Hallows’ Eve! Chrystal and I love a good party, so you’d think we’d be wild Halloween fanatics every year. But, for some unknown reason, its appeal dwindles more and more for us as we get further into adulthood. It’s been ages since either of us have put on what one would consider a “real” costume, and you won’t find us out and about on Halloween night among all the festivities. We can show our spirit in other ways, though. For one, Halloween just isn’t complete without pumpkins. Brown Butter Pumpkin Muffins
Some people adore pumpkin. Some of us do not. It is one of Amir’s favorites, but the other half of this Duo has never been that impressed. Until recently. Pumpkin is everywhere right now, which is exciting for many people. Wasn’t it just last year that the canned pumpkin purée shortage wreaked havoc upon the nation’s bakers? It was also last year that we went all out and cooked up an all-pumpkin dinner party. When Trader Joe’s touted the first newsletter announcing the arrival of canned pumpkin this season, we stocked up on a few cans to work with for the months of October and November. We discussed different ways to use the pumpkin and argued about the types of families that serve pumpkin pie and/or sweet potato pie for Thanksgiving. There was no clear winner for the latter. As for the former, how would we use up all this canned pumpkin? And would the uses be enough to change an ambivalent pumpkin eater or a fan? The findings would be a welcome surprise.

Pumpkin and Sausage Lasagna
For a while, there were a lot of pumpkins bouncing around this blog. Usually the most frequent bright orange ingredient you’ll find here is a sweet potato, but it is pumpkin season, and we’ve been using the big fruit a lot. This may be one of, if not the final, pumpkin recipe you’ll see here until the need to overdose on pumpkin returns. Maybe you noticed that we some how skipped over the Guest Test Kitchen for September. Our fault completely! It’s been a little crazy for both of us, and September just slipped our minds. All we’ve done this month is go on and on about how we love October. Hopefully you are not sick of hearing this, but we have to say it again: We love October! It’s the fall time, and leaves are falling. The air is crispy and there are orange pumpkins sitting on many steps. Oh, and yesterday was Amir’s birthday! When we received the call for submissions for Foodbuzz’s monthly 24, 24, 24 event, to be held on October 24, we had to give it a shot. Once the proposal was submitted, it was time to plan another birthday party to finish off the month of babies being born! Amir wanted pumpkins in his menu, and that’s how the pumpkin blowout came into existence. Every part of the evening’s meal–from starting nibbles to the final cocktail–would contain pumpkin in some form or fashion.
