Before we begin, we must give a huge thanks to all of the friends, family and readers who have voted us through the preceding two rounds of Project Food Blog. As soon as we found out that we’d advanced to round 3 of the competition, we immediately started planning an attack. Actually, we started planning a few days before the announcement…just to be safe. The challenge was to create a luxury dinner party that titillated the taste buds and explored new flavors and ingredients. We love to do both, so it would be nothing but an exciting challenge to say the least. We had also just glided into our favorite month of the entire year–October. Taking advantage of the season and its harvest would be the main goal. This dinner party would be the best way to highlight autumnal flavors with friends, which is right up our alley.

Here we are with the second challenge for Project Food Blog–cooking a classic dish from another culture. As luck would have it, we had already planned to share this month’s Ethnic Exploration with all of you, so the timing was right. We had a long list of cuisines to choose, and this time we went for Japanese. We needed to choose a classic dish, but we also wanted it to be one new to most of our readers. It was out there, and we were going to find it.

It was time to cook, and we needed a new, fresh idea. The exchange normally starts over email, with ideas fluttering through the virtual airwaves during the days leading up to the planned bonanza. Its starts as a number of rambling replies until we’ve narrowed it down to something that actually would make sense to another person. This is how we work. It’s what we do! It has proven successful over the near two years we have worked on this website, so why fix something that ain’t broke?
