I met Kate when we worked for the same television network just over seven years ago. She oversaw one sector of my department’s production activity, and she was great at her job. She was also fun and quirky with a quick sense of humor. Although we mostly communicated over email, I knew she was a good person. Over the recent years, I discovered her interest in food and cooking was just as strong as mine. It made sense to give her the spotlight. Although Amir and I worked at the same company for a very tiny window of time, I’m not sure if he’s ever met Kate. I do know that it would be fun for us to all cook together one day. Here goes Kate!

Summertime Brunch at Faux Pas Bistro
Restaurant Reviews • Tags: brunch, Faux Pas Bistro, Los Angeles restaurant, mimosas, pancakes
At the beginning of the month, Chrystal and I met for brunch at LA’s new Faux Pas Bistro. It was a sunny June afternoon here in LA, so we were thrilled to take a break from our busy schedules and enjoy a nice meal while taking in the summer breeze. And we did just that! As weather permits, Faux Pas’ street-facing wall allows for people watching and glorious flowing air in between the tables. What was even more special about this brunch rendezvous was the fact that we were meeting on a Friday. Brunch on a weekday? Yes, please!

BoHo Restaurant Debuts New Sunday Brunch
Restaurant Reviews • Tags: biscuits and gravy, BoHo, brunch, gastropub, Hollywood, Hollywood & Highland, huevos rancheros
Back in May, we were invited to visit the newly renovated BoHo gastropub in Hollywood. We loved this place! From gourmet pizzas and sensational burgers to near-perfect fish and chips, BoHo offers an array of wonderful, snazzy bar food each day of the week. Perched at the top of the famous entertainment and shopping complex Hollywood & Highland, this pub also wowed us with its extensive beer list and a laid-back, chill atmosphere. Oh, and we hear they have a great happy hour! Recently, we were luckily enough to be tapped again for a tasting at BoHo. This time, it was to experience the new Sunday brunch menu that had only been up for grabs for a couple of months. Nothing beats a weekend breakfast, and we were down to sample the morning offerings.

Thanksgiving is now over, but there are still several weeks of holiday parties left in this winter season. With numerous celebrations underway or looming in the near future, it’s almost overwhelming. We both love food, and we enjoy cooking for ourselves and friends, but sometimes–just sometimes–you have to take a break and try to bring your body down from the sugar highs (and lows). Plus, if we must admit, we’ve both stored a few extra pounds from all of the sugar, flour and butter that goes into the winter time baked goods. There’s no time like today to keep your jeans from going up one size before the New Year, so let’s see what we can do.

Cranberry Orange Muffins, Duck Fat Roasted Potato and Egg Wraps, Sweet Strawberry Milk

Face it people. Not every meal will have great photos. That’s just a fact of life. Or maybe it’s just a fact of blogging. We spend so much time running around trying to make food look great on a plate, which is fine if you have the time. Sometimes you just don’t have the time. Or a plate! Especially when you’re going on a road trip. For Amir’s birthday, we hit the road to San Luis Obispo with food in one hand and a camera in the other. Have you ever taken photos of your food while a car is in motion? Let’s just say it is not an easy feat, but we did not want to keep these recipes from you. Regardless, no road trip is complete without something to nibble on. On our last drive to San Diego, there were pop tarts nestled into a basket. As we’ve both crossed over into a new year of age this past October, it was high time to balance an early breakfast with something sweet and something substantial. This was the perfectly portable cure to rumbling bellies in the morning.
