Cholula Hot Sauce - The Duo Dishes
When Cholula offered to send a sampler four-pack of their signature hot sauces, accepting the package was an easy decision. Flavorful hot sauces have always been of interest, especially ones that have the potential to elevate a recipe. We come from an interesting world of spice. Growing up in the South means Louisiana Hot Sauce, Crystal and Tabasco. It wasn’t until the move to California that we came across brands like Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce, Tapatio and, of course, Cholula Hot Sauce. If you ask a hot sauce lover which condiment brand is the favorite, he or she will probably be able to give you a very specific answer with a specific reason. Here in Los Angeles, depending on where you go, you will find a hot sauce firmly planted on each diner’s table. How do you choose your method of heat distribution? It’s all about the balance of a comfortably heated tingle and bold flavor.

The interesting thing about spicy heat is that it is measured by the Scolville scale, which contains every single pepper on an increasing scale of intensity. The average bell pepper only measures between 0 and 100 units on the scale, while a habanero pepper ranks around 200,000 to 300,000 units. Cholula Hot Sauce’s mix of peppers land the varieties at a comfortable 40,000 to 60,000 units on the scale, which is equivalent to the heat of a cayenne pepper or tabasco pepper. Just hot enough to get you going without blowing up your taste buds. Instead of dousing a morning’s batch of eggs or sprinkling it into a Bloody Mary, it seemed like a good idea to play around with a different type of recipe on the Cholula site. It’s a cool mix of plump shrimp, crunchy cucumbers, creamy avocados and bright pomegranate seeds, all of which find themselves in a lightly spiced mix of sour cream and Cholula Chili Garlic Hot Sauce. The spice is just enough to linger in the mouth without overpowering any element of the salad, and the underlying flavors of fiery chilis and pungent garlic shine through.

Cholula is celebrating with a new Facebook promotion: National Chili Garlic Week. On Wednesday, October 26th, we’ll co-host a Tweetchat with Cholula Hot Sauce and talk all about chili and garlic–how you use them, what you love about them, their impact on a dish, how you store them, etc. We want to find out if you love chili and garlic as much as we do, especially when used in combination. During the Tweetchat, Cholula Hot Sauce will select thirty winners who will take home great prizes. Many of you will sample the Cholula four-pack, some of you will win a $25 Williams and Sonoma gift card, and one of you will take home an All-Clad Deluxe Slow Cooker! Here’s how you can join in on Wednesday, October 26th from 5:00 pm-6:30 pm PST:

Make sure you follow @TheDuoDishes and @CholulaHotSauce on Twitter. Login to Tweetchat with your Twitter handle and password, and hop into the conversation with the hashtag “#CholulaChiliGarlic”. 6. haha. you know i don’t do shrimp nor a fan of hot sauce, but something about their packaging is attractive to me. i knew someone at IHop that gave me a few bottles once, but i’m curious to know what the other flavors taste like. the only thing i really put hot sauce on is my yellow vegetable rice. it’s so perfect!
